ISTA+
Utility: ISTA+ is BMW's OEM diagnostic software. It allows reading and clearing faults, running actuator tests, following control plans, and accessing workshop procedures.
Applications: troubleshooting, maintenance, electronics, battery, ABS, DSC, airbag, engine, transmission, air conditioning, and ECUs.
Compatible cables: K+DCAN for older E-series, ENET for F/G series, ENET DOIP or ICOM depending on vehicle and use.
ISTA P
Utility: ISTA P is mainly used for programming and updating BMW ECUs on older generations.
Applications: ECU programming, module replacement, vehicle software updates, and coding after replacing certain parts.
Recommended cable: ICOM is recommended to limit risks during programming operations.
BMW Standard Tools
Utility: BMW Standard Tools is a suite of several historical software programs primarily used on BMW E-series.
- INPA: advanced diagnostics, fault reading, real-time values, and module testing.
- NCS Expert: coding of BMW electronic modules.
- NCS Dummy: helps with reading and modifying coding parameters.
- WinKFP: programming and flashing of BMW ECUs.
- Tool32: advanced commands sent directly to ECUs.
Compatible cable: Primarily K+DCAN.
E-Sys
Utility: E-Sys is used for coding and certain programming operations on modern BMWs.
Applications: VO coding, FDL coding, option activation, retrofit, and module configuration.
Vehicles: BMW F and G series.
Compatible cable: Primarily ENET, ENET DOIP depending on the vehicle.
